Windom Man Charged With Killing Infant Due In Court Tuesday

Gavel

(Windom, MN) – A Windom man charged in the murder of his 2-month-old baby is due in court Tuesday.

Twenty-five-year-old Zachariah James Baker was charged in Cottonwood County Court with unintentional 2nd-degree murder and 3rd-degree murder last month.

According to court documents, Baker woke up to tend to his fussy baby at 5 a.m. on the morning of July 8.  He told police he laid the baby down while he prepared a bottle, but the child was motionless when he returned.  Baker said he’d bumped the baby’s head on the side of the crib as he picked him up, but the infant calmed down and seemed okay.

An autopsy determined the baby suffered blunt force trauma to the head, a laceration on the upper lip, and brain, eye and neck hemorrhaging.

Baker’s will make his initial appearance in court December 11th.  His bail has been set at $500,000.
