(Mankato, MN) – A man who police say allowed a nine-year-old child to drive his vehicle is facing criminal charges.

Connor Quinn Hudalla, 22, of Andover, was charged with gross misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a child in Blue Earth County Court Friday.

According to the criminal complaint, a 9-year-old boy was behind the wheel of Hudalla’s Mazda Miata when police were called to the scene of a crash at Chelsey Skate Park last Tuesday.  The boy’s mother said the child had been admiring the vehicle before the crash.

Hudalla admitted to police that he had sat in the passenger seat and allowed the boy to start the car and reverse across the parking lot.  He said the boy then took the gearshift out of reverse, and it fell into third gear as the child floored the accelerator and crashed into the building.

Hudalla broke the windshield from the impact of his head, suffering a cut, according to the complaint.

The boy discussed an injury to his chest and nose with paramedics, but wasn’t certain if the injury was from skateboarding or the crash.
