(Olivia, MN) – Renville County residents may notice the sheriff squad cars look a bit more lively than usual.

The squads will be sporting colorful stars as part of a cancer awareness campaign called the “Star of Renville County.”  Observers will see purple, white, periwinkle, and zebra-striped stars displayed on the vehicles.  The sheriff’s office teamed up with Renville County Walk in the Park for the campaign, which will spotlight different types of cancer each month.

Residents can “sponsor” a squad car in honor of a cancer survivor for a $100 donation.  The traditional gold star on the car will be replaced with a colored star.  The money raised will go towards Renville County residents currently undergoing cancer treatment and research.

November is designated as pancreatic, lung, stomach, and carcinoid cancer awareness month.
