Mankato man charged with 4th Minnesota DWI

(Mankato, MN) – A Mankato man has been charged with his fourth DWI in Minnesota.

Michael Paul Klick, 36, faces two counts of felony DWI after two towing companies called police to report an aggressive caller who was slurring his words on the phone.

According to the criminal complaint, Klick slid in the ditch on Country Road 13 while driving home from the Amboy – Good Thunder area on February 20 at 6:43 p.m. Responding Blue Earth County Sheriff’s deputies notice Klick was unstable on his feet and couldn’t keep his balance. Klick fell in the snow multiple times as he attempted to walk out of the ditch, according to the complaint.

Court documents say that Klick initially denied drinking, but eventually admitted to having three drinks at a Mankato bar. Klick reportedly said “please don’t give me a DWI,” according to the complaint, telling deputies that he already has four DWI’s and would face prison time from a previous felony drinking and driving conviction. Klick’s driving privileges had been revoked.

A breath test put Klick’s blood alcohol level at .15, according to the complaint.

Klick has been convicted three times previously of DWI in Minnesota: In 2011 in Carlton County, in 2016 in St. Louis County, and most recently in St. Louis County in April 2018.

It’s unclear if the fourth DWI Klick told deputies he had was from another state.
