(Arlington, MN) – The remains of an Arlington serviceman who went missing when his plane crash over a half-century ago will be laid to rest this weekend.

Verne Chester Budahn’s body will arrive at the Minneapolis International Airport today, with interment at the Arlington Public Cemetary this Saturday.

Budahn enlisted in the military shortly after graduating from high school, in November 1951.  The U.S airman was killed on November 22, 1952 when the C-124 carrying him back to his base crashed into the side of Mt. Gannet near Anchorage.  All 52 people on board perished in the crash.  It wasn’t until 2013 that recovery efforts began.

Budahn was the son of Arlington mayor Vernon and his wife Myrtle (Sinell).  He had four brothers, but three have passed away since his death.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, according to his obituary.
