(St. James, MN) – A jury found Scott Engelbrecht guilty of murder in Brown County Thursday.

The verdict was announced after nearly four hours of deliberation.  The 60-year-old St. James man was convicted of two counts each of first and second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his wife Joyce Engelbrecht and her daughter Rachel Linder.  Engelbrecht was also convicted of assault for pointing a gun at Linder’s son, Dillion Mathias.

The defense argued that Mathias had shot Joyce Engelbrecht in a ploy to receive his inheritance.

Engelbrecht was arrested June 16, 2018 after shooting his wife during an argument about an anniversary gift.  Police found Rachel Linder shot dead on a porch about two houses down from the Engelbrecht residence and Scott Engelbrecht walking through a neighboring yard.

Engelbrecht’s sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
