Courtland employees out of work as LME trucking abruptly shuts down
(Roseville, MN) – A major trucking fleet with local ties has abruptly shut down operations.
The Star Tribune reports that LME trucking, based in Roseville, has closed 30 delivery terminals throughout the midwest, including one terminal in Courtland.
Calls to the Courtland and main terminal were unanswered. “Effective immediately LME will no longer be accepting any pickups,” the company’s website said in its “Service Updates” section.
The carrier had several major accounts, including 3M, John Deere, and Toro.
New Ulm resident Joe Habeck, an LME driver, told SMN the employees at the Courtland hub weren’t paid before the company shut down, which he says was with zero notice. “We were out running our routes. They canceled our pickups and told us to come back. When we got back and told we were done have a good life basically.”
The company has been under financial duress for several years. Last month, LME began paying a multi-million dollar settlement to workers from the affiliated Lakeville Motors Express, which also shut down suddenly over two years ago.
Habeck says there were approximately 15 employees that worked at the Courtland terminal.
