Boy with Autism rescued from Rochester river

(Rochester, MN) – A young boy with autism was rescued from the Zumbro River in Rochester Sunday.

According to KIMT, the fire department was called to the scene near Soldiers Memorial Field Park around 2:45 p.m., on a report of a boy being swept into the river.

Responding police officers spotted the boy in the water and pointed his location to the firefighters, who then waded into the river to retrieve him, the Rochester Post-Bulletin reports. The paper says he is 4 years old.

The boy was about a quarter-mile downstream from where he went in, KAAL reports. But authorities said he appeared to be doing fine after the rescue.

“A team effort of Rochester Fire, Rochester Police and Mayo Clinic Ambulance,” the Rochester Fire Department wrote on Facebook.
